Paul Neagu: Palpable Sculpture
Romanian born Paul Neagu’s unique artistic vocabulary demanded sculpture be appreciated by all five senses. As an artist, he invented a new language. As a teacher, he inspired and challenged students who would, in turn, write the story of sculpture.
Paul Neagu: Palpable Sculpture presents over 120 works across four of the Henry Moore Institute’s galleries, spanning 1968 to 1986. The exhibition includes sculptures, drawings, films, texts and archival material, much of which has never previously been exhibited.
In this catalogue, Mel Gooding addresses Neagu’s impact on sculpture in Britain; Ileana Pintilie traces the development of his performances into the pivotal ‘Hyphen’ sculptures in the mid-1970s; Magda Radu tackles Neagu’s complex idea of the ‘anthroposcosmos’ where he attempts to ‘de-compose the anatomical elements of the human body’ and Jon Wood provides a thoughtful examination of the Generative Art Group.
The catalogue includes a complete list of works in the exhibition and a dedicated colour plates section.
