Radoslav Putar: Criticism, Studies and Notes 1961–1987 (Vol. I & II)

The book Radoslav Putar: Kritike, studije i zapisi 1961.–1987. brings a selection of Putar's art criticism, studies and notes (Vol. I), as well as essays and criticism in the field of design (Vol. II), written between 1961 and 1987. The book encompasses a timeframe in which Putar was not only active as art and design critic, but also as an agile collaborator of the international movement New Tendencies, curator and director of the Museum of Arts and Crafts and the Gallery of Contemporary Art, pedagogue and lecturer of visual education for workers in the Workers’ University ”Moša Pijade”, teacher in the first Croatian post-war Graduate Studies of Design program, and a fervent participant in public debates on questions concerning culture and cultural policies. The multitude of diverse and closely intertwined Putar’s activities, related to his committed and long-term effort to advance the general level of visual culture, resulted with a methodologically coherent body of work, which offers a comprehensive insight to the Croatian visual and cultural scene of the 1960s and 1970s. The two-volume publication concludes the long process of archiving and systematizing Putar's entire intellectual legacy, held at the Institute of Art History in Zagreb, which is now – together with the previously published selection of critical essays from the 1950s – available to the general audience.
