AMA. Ľubomír Ďurček, Květoslava Fulierová, Július Koller and Amateur Artists

“AMA” is the first critical survey devoted to the long-term educational activity of Ľubomír Ďurček (1948), Květoslava Fulierová (1932) and Július Koller (1939 — 2007). Extensive photographic documentation, together with a selection of key texts, presents their distinctive programme of working with amateur artists during the years 1968 to 1998. As tutors they were acting under the auspices of the district cultural centres in Bratislava. This bilingual publication (Slovak and English) is compiled from hitherto unpublished materials, focusing on a method of alternative education that retains its relevance today. The Cultural Situations, initiated by Július Koller, reveal the determination of these artists to freely develop their own programme, in which amateurs attending summer gatherings were involved on a basis of equality. May this publication motivate today's young specialists to be unprofessional and inspire future professionals to artistic amateurism.
