Denisa Lehocká thinks of her sculptures as “spatial collages” in view of how they embody fragile constructs that inhabit space but ephemerally. These objects, done mostly in white and pastel colors, hang from the ceiling on invisible thread and thereby embed themselves like graphic outlines in their surroundings. The artist predominantly uses materials such as nylon, cotton, and other textiles, which she wraps around amorphous white plaster elements. For her “Untitled” sculptural installations, the concrete method via which Lehocká begins is to work around the objects’ plaster cores with textiles, thereafter proceeding in a free manner by attaching additional materials reminiscent of common items and the everyday such as banknotes or coins. While fragile in their outlines, Lehocká’s installations represent an intangible force grounded in subjective manifestations of playfulness between mind and body, reality and fiction, appearance and disappearance—resulting in infinite avenues of sculptural representation.
