Silvia Eiblmayr

“Art has always taught us how gender relations look”

Ever since the KONTAKT Collection’s founding in 2004, art historian and curator Silvia Eiblmayr has been a member of its Art Advisory Committee. In this interview, she explains what it means to speak about art in Eastern Europe and the “staging of the female body” in a nuanced way, making reference to several of the collection’s works including Sanja Iveković’s “Triangle” (1979). She also vehemently calls for significant increases to the budgets of public museums and exhibiting institutions. Collecting, says Eiblmayr, must not be given over to private initiatives.
