The exhibition “Visual Texts” was the outcome of longstanding plans by the Labyrinth Gallery, where curator Józef Robakowski endeavored to confront works by artists from Eastern Bloc countries with those of their colleagues from West—something that, in Poland’s more politically liberal atmosphere, was easier to accomplish than in Czechoslovakia. This exhibition corresponded with Jiří Valoch’s theoretical line of thought, according to which he regarded visual poetry as being part of broader conceptual tendencies. J.P.
