realized projects (House of Art in Brno, Young friend of Visual Arts MPVU)

A catalog entitled “Realized Projects” documents a collective series of land art events and minimalistic open-air interventions in the open that were initiated by Jiří Valoch in the vicinity of Brno (mainly in the Pálava and Moravian Karst areas) and co-realized by the members of MPVU (Young Friends of Visual Art). The group was organized by the Brno House of Arts, and the early 1960s saw it make one of Central Europe’s initial attempts at popularizing contemporary art via a dedicated artistic event. This catalog contains a text in which Valoch contextualizes its events in light of the activities of the Slovenian artists’ group OHO and relates them to the documentation and perception of action art. This catalog was in the process of being created when normalization set in and was subsidized by the Brno House of Arts. Its conception was enabled in part by the fact that the organizers passed this activity off as pedagogical practice, for which reason its publication did not need to be approved by the cultural committees.
